I was 40 years old by the time I began making art and have been feverishly creating ever since—as if trying to make up for lost time. My subjects vary with focused randomness though I fixate on something and paint it until a new subject draws my attention. Lately I’ve been preoccupied with abstract painting using oil paint and cold wax medium. I am completely out of my element with both subject and medium and both enjoy and feel maddened by the unknown territory and delightful curiosity that is evoked when doing something new and unfamiliar.
I make pictures to connect with something bigger and it requires trusting myself in ways that are unique to making art. My challenge is to trust the process, trust that I am guided on my path of creativity, a thing that keeps me balanced and connected.
